A member of the Irish Massage Therapists Association (IMTA) Shirley at work and a Registered Teacher with the Shiatsu Society of Ireland, Shirley taught for 9 years with the Irish School of Shiatsu on their Practitioner Training Course. She currently teaches for the Shiatsu College Dublin. She is a member of the Accreditation Panel of the Shiatsu Society of Ireland, the Regulatory body which sets educational standards and assesses practitioners and teachers of Shiatsu in Ireland.

Shirley also works with Sláinte Pobal, (Community Health) Ltd., a group working for change by promoting a more holistic approach to health and living. The work of Sláinte Pobal is concerned in particular with giving people in areas of disadvantage access to information on complementary approaches to health.
